| April 30, 2009 | | Biotecnol successfully completes milestone of process development and manufacturing activities for Alligator Bioscience AB inflammation programme ADC -1004
| | Oeiras, Portugal, Durham, USA and Lund, Sweden – 30 April 2009. Alligator Bioscience AB, Lund, Sweden, appointed Biotecnol, to develop a robust high yielding process for manufacturing Alligator Bioscience’s Drug Candidate ADC-1004, a selective antagonist of the C5a receptor, in sufficient quantities and suitable quality to support Alligator Biosciences’s critical animal Proof of Concept study. Biotecnol recently completed this activity and successfully delivered ADC-1004 to Alligator Bioscience.
Philip Cunnah, Director of Process Development and Manufacturing activities at Biotecnol said that “Over the last decade we have built substantial and recognised expertise in biologics process development and manufacturing activities. We were delighted with the trust and confidence Alligator Bioscience placed in our abilities to produce ADC-1004 at such a critical point in their product development activities. "It was a pleasure to work with Alligator Bioscience on this project and we look forward in continuing working together to support Alligator Bioscience’s activities in process development and manufacturing of their products pipeline”.
Christina Furebring, Vice President Research and Development of Alligator Bioscience commented “we appreciated the professionalism and enthusiasm of the Biotecnol team and acknowledge their flexibility and commitment to deliver beyond the initial objectives against a challenging timeline”.
About Alligator Bioscience
Alligator Bioscience AB is a privately owned drug discovery and development company focused on optimization of biopharmaceuticals using it’s proprietary protein optimization technology FIND® (Fragment INduced Diversity). FIND® technology can redesign virtually any characteristics of a protein that can be translated into significant clinical benefits, including higher efficacy and potency, improved safety profile and decreased immunogenicity. The technology offers unique opportunities to discover novel protein drug candidates as well as creating second generation biopharmaceuticals.
Founded in 2001 in Lund, Sweden, Alligator Bioscience has successfully collaborated with many companies in the pharmaceutical and biotech industry, improving customers’ proteins and helping them to build more competitive pipelines. Alligator Bioscience’s own pipeline of novel and improved drug candidates is focused on inflammation and cancer, including programs targeting the C5a receptor (C5aR) and Interleukin 1 (IL-1).
About ADC-1004
ADC-1004 is a protein drug candidate optimized to be a selective antagonist of the C5a receptor. Its properties are suitable for treating acute inflammation, a condition for which there is a high unmet medical need. In particular acute inflammation and an ensuing reperfusion injury is a serious complication after e.g. myocardial infarction treated with balloon dilatation. Alligator Bioscience drug candidate ADC-1004, is designed to protect against this reperfusion injury.
About Biotecnol
Biotecnol is a biotechnology company developing biopharmaceutical products, and has a special focus on the development of novel antibody-based therapeutics to treat life-threatening diseases such as cancer. Biotecnol has a proprietary antibody format, which allows to develop multi-specific antibodies against various cancer targets. These formats are called Tribodies™. Biotecnol is committed in building value by developing a diverse pipeline of antibody products to address unmet healthcare needs. Biotecnol has a presence in the USA and carries its product development activities via its fully owned subsidiary Biotecnol Pharmaceuticals Inc.
Through its facilities in Portugal, Biotecnol leverages its business income by establishing in-house partner-led or collaborative programmes, which provide Biotecnol a strong client-based activity and an established track record. Biotecnol uses its proprietary expression technology, cell line development capabilities, upstream and downstream processing, analytics and QC experience for delivering therapeutic recombinant protein product and processes to support all stages of product development through early research and preclinical activities to GMP/GLP compliant processes for biomanufacturing of clinical and ultimately commercial products.
