Alligator Bioscience AB has successfully run a project for AstraZeneca. With the aid of its patented technology, this IDEON based company has been able to considerably improve the properties of a protein for AstraZeneca – indeed, after a shorter development time than estimated.
These positive results have been achieved thanks to Alligator’s FIND™ technology, which with the aid of genetic engineering facilitates improvement of the properties of individual proteins for drugs and diagnostic applications. This technology offers a more reliable way of refining proteins than conventional methods, whilst facilitating faster and more cost-effective development work.
"The fact that AstraZeneca chose Alligator’s technology was an important milestone in our work of establishing ourselves in the field of drug development. The clear results we have now achieved in a relatively short time underline the advantages of our technology over conventional methods of development and refinement of proteins," comments Dr Nils Siegbahn, CEO of Alligator Bioscience AB.
The contract with AstraZeneca has provided Alligator with full payment of the project’s research & development costs, as well as a special success payment for attainment of project targets. There is also a possibility of further payments in future.
Alligator Bioscience AB
Alligator Bioscience develops and markets refined, high-performance proteins, primarily for protein drugs and diagnostic applications. The company develops proteins for its own drug candidates and for customer-financed collaborative projects. Its own projects primarily concentrate on drug candidates in the areas of rheumatism and cardiac infarction. The business is based on the company’s own patented FIND™ technology and supplementary technologies. The latter offer a more reliable way of refining proteins than conventional methods, whilst facilitating faster and more cost-effective development work. Alligator has its origins in the listed company BioInvent International AB, and operates from the science park Ideon in Lund. The company has around 150 owners, of whom Industrifonden and Stena AB are the biggest.
